Wilco: no final call.
<Lionel_Wolberger>
Wilco: not much progress. Carlos: mostly Aaron moving
stuff. Got some feedback from TF. <Wilco> https://github.com/w3c/wcag-act/issues/510 Wilco: "heading has non empty
accessible name": TF recommends we stop looking at this rule.
Fully empty headings are generally ignored, so not a problem.
Not sure this is a WCAG failure. Anne: originally, rule was only
checking heading with whitespace. Wilco: we had hard time figuring
out what is problematic. Anne: behaviour depends a lot on
UA/ATs. Wilco: 2 types of whitespace:
ASCII/non-ASCII Anne: also depend if inside a
span, and similar stuff Lionel: this is a very simple
rule to build and validate. Anne: this is caught by manual
"descriptive heading" rule. <Wilco> https://act-rules.github.io/rules/b49b2e Wilco: anybody wants to update
the rule? <Wilco> https://github.com/w3c/wcag-act/issues/510 Anne: will write a small
response. Jean-Yves: rule test table/grid
and check for cell/gridcell but passes with table having only
gridcell. Anne: is this an accessibility
issue or an HTML validation issue? Jean-Yves: HTML doesn't care
about roles, nothing has an implicit role of gridcell
(iirc) Lionel: would that pass an HTML
validator? Should we request HTML validation before applying
rules? Wilco: valid HTML is not needed
for WCAG, so we don't assume valid HTML. Lionel: should we have a global
note that rules work on invalid HTML? Shadi: Any idea where? Where
would you be searching for it? Anne: I like to have something
like that. Lionel: will search for a good
place. Jean-Yves: WCAG 2.2 has a
"understanding ACT rule" bit… Shadi: Can be in the
"Understanding test rules" of WCAG 2.2 We're working on
redesigning these pages. <shadi>
https://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG22/Understanding/understanding-act-rules Wilco: we need to check if the
mix of table/grid is causing accessibility problems. Jean-Yves: I think it was
discussed when writing the rule. Wilco: even if ATs don't care,
for 1.3.1 it is important to have the correct roles Anne: if browser manages to
repair it, and AT can use it; then it should be good. Carlos: if we ignore stuff that
browsers and AT can fix, this might end up bad for us in the
future. Lionel: do we have warnings? Wilco: no. Jean-Yves: using Wilco: yes… Anne: I think I've seen tables
with only div for cells, maybe for everything. Wilco: I suggest we change the
expectation to only allow cells for table and gridcell for
grids. Jean-Yves: might feel a bit
convoluted expectation. Wilco: should be good enough. Carlos: are we keeping the name
of the rule? Or ad "grid" to it? Anne: should we include
treegrid? Wilco: treegrid is a separate
issue. Name is OK. <Wilco> 1. change title to
"Header cell has assigned cells" <CarlosD> +1 +1 <Lionel_Wolberger> +1 <Wilco> currently: Table
header cell has assigned cells RESOLUTION: update rule title to "Header cell
has assigned cells" <Wilco> PROPOSAL: Update the
rule to only allow "cell" roles in "table" and "gridcell" roles
in "grid" <CarlosD> +1 <anne_thyme> +1 +1 <shadi> +1 <Lionel_Wolberger> +1 RESOLUTION: Update the rule to only allow "cell"
roles in "table" and "gridcell" roles in "grid" Wilco: out of time, final
thoughts.Rules ready for W3C publication https://github.com/act-rules/act-rules.github.io/issues/1120
... Heading with only whitespace are shown in ATs.
... not all non-ASCII whitespace are ignored.
... the rule is currently creating a lot of needless work
... no time pressure, can happen slowly
... the rule is very depend on what AT do (and ignore) can be
hard to maintain when ATs change.
... could be in some sort of intro to ACT rules, or readme.
... on lists, technologies don't care what role children
have.
... this is not already covered by the other rules.
... why are treegrid not included?
... we usually try to avoid several rules checking the same
thing, especially one for native HTML and one for ARIA
stuff.Summary of Action
