ZeroPlastic Orientation Program: A Remarkable Step Towards Sustainability
On January 23, 2025, the ZeroPlastic movement of the University of Peradeniya successfully hosted its very first Orientation and Awareness Program for this term 25/26 at the Animal Science Theatre, Faculty of Agriculture. We were able to drew over 250 undergraduates, who are enthusiastic nature lovers primarily from the Faculty of Agriculture.
The program provided participants with a summary of the ZeroPlastic movement, its mission, and the significant milestones achieved at the university and national levels. Through engaging presentations and interactive discussions, attendees were introduced to the wide range of projects completed in previous academic terms.
The session also emphasized the importance of volunteering and the personal and professional benefits it brings, inspiring students to become part of the ZeroPlastic family.

Collaborative efforts ensured the program ran smoothly, leaving a lasting impression on the participants. By showcasing the movement’s achievements, we successfully motivated students to take part in our future projects and make actions to contribute to a plastic-free future. This Orientation Program marks the beginning of a new chapter in the ZeroPlastic journey for the term, as it continues to empower students and foster an environmental responsibility at the University of Peradeniya.
