Define custom regions
The map layouts Tableau provides gives you a lot of information about the geography of your data. What Tableau doesn't do and really can't do is to indicate the territories and regions that are specific to your business, especially regarding groups of customers. In this movie, I will show you how to define custom regions based on your Tableau mapping data. My sample file is 11_05_Custom Region, and you can find it in the Chapter_11 folder of the Exercise Files collection. In this workbook I have a map and it shows my customers near the District of Columbia, and that is in the eastern United States and is our National Capital Area. If I want to define this customer group as a custom region, then I can select the items. So I will move the mouse pointer over to here. And I will drag to select those data points. And then on the toolbar I will click the group members button. It looks like a paper clip. And then click zipcode. And a new zip code group has been created over in the sidebar…
