Create line charts and area fill charts

Much of the data you visualize in Tableau will have a time, day, or date associated with it. For example, you might have a summary of orders from your company's warehouse. In this movie, I will show you how to summarize data by creating a line charts which are perfect for time series data. In much the same way, you can use area filled charts to show how different categories or types of orders contributes to the whole. My sample file is 08_02_Line, and you can find it in the Chapter_08 folder of the Exercise Files collection. I have a blank worksheet. So I'll go ahead and create a visualization based on time data. I have the order date for each of the orders, so I'll drag it from the sidebar to the column shelf. And I want to visualize the total sales, so I'll drag the order total pill to the data area here, and I get a visualization. Rather than breaking it down just by year, I want to show sales by quarter, so on the column shelf I will click the order date pills show detail control.…
