Understanding components in SketchUp

- [Instructor] A component is much like a group in that it provides a protective barrier around geometry so that no other geometry will stick to it, but it also has other qualities. It acts as a bit of a super group with connections to copies of itself. To demonstrate this, let's make a staircase. If you haven't already watched the "Make An Array" video, you may want to review that first. In this model, I've drawn a rectangle that is four-foot by one-foot to represent a stair tread. Let's extrude this shape using the push/pull tool, letter P, or this icon here, and click "release", move your cursor upwards and type "8", "enter" for an eight-inch high stair tread. Now tap your space bar key or click the "select" icon at the top. Let's draw a selection box around it. Move to the left and click "drag" to draw the box, selecting all of the loose geometry. Now we can right click on the geometry and choose "make component". We are going to name the component "stair", and then click…
