- All of the recommendations in this lesson can apply to the following components. Operating systems, software, hypervisors, firmware, and system images. Regular updates. Make sure that operating systems are updated regularly with the latest patches. Automate patch management. Implement streamlined automated patch management solutions to identify, test and deploy patches. This reduces human error continuously. Monitor for new vulnerabilities and threats that could affect operating systems. Use vulnerability scanning tools, and scheduled vulnerability assessments. Prioritize critical updates. Focus on applying critical updates and patches for the highest severity vulnerabilities. So for example, ones that have higher CVSS scores. Test the patches before deployment in a prototype or type one hypervisor environment. Schedule updates during low traffic periods. Make sure that you minimize disruptions on your business operations.
