Visibility and usage of your uploaded resume

Last updated: 4 weeks ago

There are several ways to upload resumes on LinkedIn. If you upload your resume while applying for a job on LinkedIn, it’ll be shared with that hirer. You can also upload your resume from the Job Application Settings page. When you upload your resume we’ll save a copy and retain your four most recently uploaded resumes, enabling you to reuse them for future job applications. We’ll use your saved resumes to personalize and improve LinkedIn consistent with our Privacy Policy and as described below. You can manage which resumes are saved and can opt-out of saving resumes in your resume settings.

Examples of how we may use your saved resumes include recommending and ranking jobs you might be interested in and personalizing other content recommendations (such as LinkedIn Learning courses, suggesting updates to your profile, feed posts, connections, or companies to follow). To do this, we may infer data about you, such as your skills, interests and experiences from your saved resumes. We may also use data from your saved resumes when you use generative AI features (for example, when you are searching for jobs, we may use your saved resume data in AI-powered features that show you how well you match the qualifications of a particular role).

Your saved resume data may also contribute to improvements in our AI models. This includes training content-generating AI models consistent with practices outlined in our FAQ on LinkedIn’s use of Generative AI and subject to your settings, where you can opt out of information you share being used to improve content-generating AI models.

Finally, in addition to sharing your resume with hirers when you apply to a job on LinkedIn, you have additional options to share your resumes with others including:

  • If you have not turned off the Share resume data with hirers setting, we will also use your shared resume data as inputs into features that allow hirers to see how you match their job qualifications, as well as including certain resume data on your profile in our hiring products.

  • If you post a resume as a media attachment to your LinkedIn profile or in a LinkedIn post, it will be visible to anyone viewing your profile or that post and may be visible off LinkedIn.
