Anthropic Claude Sonnet 4 and Claude Opus 4 are now in public preview in GitHub Copilot

Anthropic’s latest models, Claude Sonnet 4 and Claude Opus 4, are now available in GitHub Copilot. Claude Opus 4 is Anthropic’s most powerful model yet, excelling at complex problem solving and powering frontier AI agents. Claude Sonnet 4 is the successor to the developer-loved Claude Sonnet 3.7. It is ideal for coding workflows, with a good balance across performance and practicality. Both models are hybrid thinking models, capable of extended thinking with tool use and logical summaries.
Availability in GitHub Copilot
Claude Sonnet 4 will be made available to all paid GitHub Copilot plans, while Opus 4 will be made available to Copilot Enterprise and Pro+ plans. You can access both models in GitHub Copilot Chat on github.com, Visual Studio Code, and in GitHub Mobile through the chat model picker. Sonnet 4 is also coming to agent mode and the coding agent. We will conduct a gradual rollout over the next few hours, so continue to check back if you’ve not gotten access.
Enabling access
Copilot Enterprise administrators will need to enable access to these models through a new policy in Copilot settings. As an administrator, you can verify availability by checking your individual Copilot settings and confirming that the policy is set to enabled for the specific model. Once enabled, you’ll see the model in the Copilot Chat model selector in VS Code and on github.com.
